Washington D.C. [USA], Jan 6 (ANI): A national emergency may be declared by US President Donald Trump in the country as the partial government shutdown entered its 16th day on Sunday.
"I haven't done it. I may do it. We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly," Trump had earlier said while referring to the building of a wall on the US border with Mexico.
The partial shutdown is well into its third week due to an impasse between Trump and lawmakers over funding for a wall on USA's Southern border. Trump, who has found support for his proposal from senior members in the Republican party, has time and again reiterated his demand for funding for the wall, while the Democrats have slammed his decision.
In fact, House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called Trump's proposal as an "immorality" and a "waste of money" after Democrats took over the House on January 3 this year.
"We can only stay like this for so long," CNN mentioned while quoting a White House official.
Talks between the Trump administration and the lawmakers have had little success, as the stalemate affects scores of workers who are working without pay. Several public institutions like Washington's National Zoo and museums have downed their shutters owing to a lack of funding due to the shutdown. (ANI)
