Jamal Khashoggi

Washington D.C. [U.S.A.], Oct 10 (ANI): The United States (US) has expressed concerns about missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi and called on the government of Saudi Arabia to conduct an investigation in the case.
"We call on the government of Saudi Arabia to support a thorough investigation of Khashoggi's disappearance and to be transparent about the results of that investigation," US Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo said in a press statement.
"We have seen conflicting reports on the safety and whereabouts of prominent Saudi journalist and Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi," the statement added.
He revealed that senior officials of the State Department have spoken with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with regard to the matter.
"?As the President has conveyed, the United States is concerned by his disappearance. State Department senior officials have spoken with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through diplomatic channels about this matter," Pompeo said.
Khashoggi was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 where he went to the consulate to collect some documents. He was captured in the camera while entering the building but he never came out of it, reported CNN. However, the Saudi officials asserted that Khashoggi left within a few minutes of his arrival. "US will never risk sending its navy to open up Strait of Hormuz”

Sibal argued that the US is unlikely to risk a naval operation to forcibly "reopen" the Strait of Hormuz as the deep-water channel necessary for large vessels lies within Iranian territorial waters. Iran does not need sophisticated long-range missiles to defend this corridor; short-range missiles, torpedoes, and mines can easily sink high-value naval assets.
