New York [USA], Mar 6 (ANI): With tensions between India and Pakistan continuing to simmer, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday again urged both sides to “de-escalate tension.”
In a press briefing at UN headquarters on Tuesday, Guterres’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that the Secretary-General has expressed concerns over the situation in his discussions with the officials in both the countries and stressed over the “need to do as much as anyone can to de‑escalate the tensions.”
Stephane added that as per his knowledge, the UN chief has not yet spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart.
Earlier, in the days following the Pulwama attack, the UN chief had stressed “the importance on both sides to exercise maximum restraint and take immediate steps” to defuse tensions.
As many as 40 CRPF personnel were killed in one of the most deadly attacks on security personnel in the past three decades in Jammu and Kashmir when a vehicle carrying over 100 Kg of explosives rammed into a bus in Pulwama district.
Twelve days after the attack, India carried out the air strike, targeting JeM terror camp in Balakot in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (ANI)
