Trump slams Mexico, threatens to shut border 'next week'

US President Donald Trump

Washington D.C. [USA], Mar 29 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Friday (local time) threatened to shut its southern border "or large sections of it" next week if Mexico did not stop "illegals" from entering the United States.
"The DEMOCRATS have given us the weakest immigration laws anywhere in the World. Mexico has the strongest and they make more than USD 100 Billion a year on the US. Therefore, CONGRESS MUST CHANGE OUR WEAK IMMIGRATION LAWS NOW and Mexico must stop illegals from entering the US through their country and our Southern Border," the President tweeted.
He said: "Mexico has for many years made a fortune off of the US, far greater than Border Costs. If Mexico doesn’t immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States through our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING the Border, or large sections of the Border, next week."
"This would be so easy for Mexico to do, but they just take our money and "talk." Besides, we lose so much money with them, especially when you add in drug trafficking, etc, that the Border closing would be a good thing!" Trump added.
The US President had previously voiced his disdain for the influx of illegal immigrants from the US-Mexico border. His demand for US $ 5 billion in funding for a wall on this border and the US Congress' subsequent denial of the money led to the United States government's longest-ever partial shutdown in the nation's history.
Earlier this week, the Pentagon notified the US Congress that it had transferred US $1 billion to begin new wall construction at the US-Mexico border at the behest of the US President, reports CNN.
This drew immediate objections from Democratic lawmakers, who have been against Trump's initiative, going as far as labelling it as a waste of taxpayer money. (ANI)
