Trump in Florida to survey Hurricane Irma damage, meets victims

Florida [U.S.A], Sep 14 (ANI):United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have arrived in the Gulf coast of Florida on Thursday to survey the widespread destruction caused by the Hurricane Irma, one of the strongest ones ever reported in the Atlantic, and the relief operations.

"Millions are still without power across the southeastern US as recovery efforts continue. We all want our power back," Florida Governor Rick Scott said while speaking alongside President Trump, the First Lady and Vice President Mark Pence, CNN reported.

Scott added that more than 4 million customers now have power, but there are still more than 2 million without it across the state.

But as soon as President Trump arrived in Fort Myers, he first spoke on the runway about DACA and the border wall. "We are not looking at citizenship. We are not looking at amnesty,We are looking at allowing people to stay here. We are working with everybody," Trump said.

"Ultimately, we have to have the wall. If we don't have the wall, we're doing nothing," he said.

Before leaving for Florida, Trump tweeted, "Am leaving now for Florida to see our GREAT first responders and to thank the U.S. Coast Guard, FEMA etc. A real disaster, much work to do."

Speaking to first responders in Florida, Trump thanked them for the their work after Irma.

"The job that everybody done is incredible," Trump said. He added that Irma's death toll was a "very small number," considering the power of the storm.

The death toll from Hurricane Irma is at least 24 in the U.S. - that number includes three deaths in Puerto Rico and four deaths in the U.S. Virgin Islands.(ANI)
