Washington DC [USA], May 10 (ANI): United States Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on May 14 in Russia's southern city of Sochi.
The three will discuss a "full range of bilateral and multilateral challenges," said the US Departement of State on Friday. Russia and the US are at loggerheads over a number of global issues, including the political and civil unrest prevalent in Venezuela and Syria.
Pompeo will leave Washington on May 12 and arrive in Moscow the following day, reported Sputnik.
The development comes a week after US President Donald Trump held an hour-long telephonic conversation with Putin, first time after the release of Special Council Robert Mueller's report on Russia's alleged meddling in 2016 Presidential elections.
This will be the second meeting between Lavrov and Pompeo this month. The two top diplomats earlier met in Finland's northern city of Rovaniemi, where they discussed strategic stability between the two countries.
The meeting holds prominence particularly because Russia and the US have taken diametrically opposed stands in the ongoing Venezuelan political crisis. The two countries have traded warnings against each other's interference in the country's affairs. (ANI)
