Khashoggi killing: Erdogan, Trump vow to unearth all facts

Ankara [Turkey], Nov 17 (ANI): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and United States President Donald Trump have vowed to unearth all aspects of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi's killing over a phone call held in the wee hours of Saturday morning (IST).
"Turkish and US leaders agreed to unearth all aspects of Khashoggi killing and not to allow the incident to be covered up," Anadolu News Agency tweeted.
"Agreeing on the need to shed light on all aspects and to prevent a cover-up of Jamal Khashoggi's slaying, the leaders have stressed the importance of close cooperation between Turkey and the United States in the fight against all terrorist organizations," a statement released by Erdogan's office mentioned.
Furthermore, reports have emerged that Turkey is in possession of a second audio recording related to Khashoggi's death, which points to the premeditated nature behind the killing-a claim that challenges findings from the Saudi public prosecutor's office.
Quoting a Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, Al Jazeera reported that the Saudi perpetrators can be heard discussing their plan and reminding each other of their duties in the 15-minute audio recording.
"There is also evidence from the period after the killing. Turkey has the international phone calls made by the 15-member Saudi hit squad," Abdulkar Selvi, a columnist working with Hurriyet claimed.
The claims come after Turkey confirmed that they were in possession of tapes on the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, the very same ones that have been shared by the nation with US, Germany, France, Britain, and Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Attorney General's office had earlier announced that the 15-member team had been sent by the kingdom to Istanbul to repatriate the Saudi journalist, and not to kill him.
Meanwhile, funeral prayers were held for slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi across the world, including Mecca and Medina, with his son Salah Khashoggi being present for the ones at Meca's Grand Mosque on Friday.
"Salat al-Ghaib", or special "prayers for the absent" were held both at Meca's Grand Mosque and Medina's Prophet Muhammad's mosque. However, imams at both the mosques refrained from taking Khashoggi's name during the prayers.
The special prayers are held when the body of the deceased is missing.
Funeral prayers were also held at Turkey's Fatih Mosque in Istanbul, London's Finsbury Park Mosque and Jakarta's Abu Bakar Ash Shiddiq Mosque on Friday.
Jamal Khashoggi was reported missing after he stepped into Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul on October 2 to collect paperwork that would allow him to get married to his fiancee Hatice Cengiz.
Saudi Arabia later confirmed Khashoggi's killing, leading to an international uproar led by Erdogan.
Investigations into the journalist's death continue both at Saudi Arabia and Turkey, as Khashoggi's body is yet to be traced. (ANI)
