I am very popular in Britain: Trump

Washington D.C. [U.S.A.], Jan 30 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump used his interview with British journalist Piers Morgan to claim his popularity in the United Kingdom (UK) despite calls for massive protests if he accepts Prime Minister Theresa May's invitation for a state visit.

"I think I'm very popular in your country," The Independent reports, the US president as saying to Morgan.

"Let's not be too hasty Mr President," Morgan interjected.

The controversial columnist and morning television presenter kicked off Trump's first international TV interview by declaring: "I've missed you, Mr President."

Morgan first crossed paths with Trump on the 2008 series of the Celebrity Apprentice in 2008 and has regularly boasted about their friendship.

"I know but I believe that, I really do. I get so much fan mail from people in your country," Trump added,

"They love my sense of security, they love what I'm saying about many different things. We get tremendous support from people in the UK."

The US President even went on to say that "The real me is somebody that loves Britain, loves the UK. I love Scotland. One of the biggest problems I have in winning, I won't be able to get back there so often. I would love to go there."

According to the Guardian, the interview was heavily trailed by both ITV and Morgan on social media.

It delivered some significant headlines, including the US president saying he was prepared to apologise for retweeting inflammatory videos posted by the deputy leader of the far-right group Britain First. (ANI)
