New York [United States], May 25 (ANI): The lawyer of embattled Oscar-winner Harvey Weinstein Benjamin Brafman on Friday dismissed the charges against Hollywood mogul, saying, "they are constitutionally flawed."
"We'll dismiss the charges. They are constitutionally flawed and not supported by evidence. Weinstein voluntarily surrendered today and we have met all of the bail conditions by agreement so that we would not have extended court proceedings," said Harvey Weinstein's Attorney Benjamin Brafman.
Oscar-winner Weinstein, who was charged with rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct from encounters">encounters with two different women, on Friday, was released on $1 million bail with constant electronic monitoring and a ban on traveling beyond New York and Connecticut.
"I anticipate that women who made these allegations, when subjected to cross-examination, the charges will not be believed by 12 people, assuming we get 12 fair people who are not consumed by the movement that has overtaken this case," the attorney added.
Several media report stated that the judge also imposed a temporary protective order directing Weinstein to stay away from the two women whose complaints prompted the charges.
The case was adjourned to July 30.
Weinstein was charged with rape and a criminal sex act as well as lower-level sex abuse and sexual misconduct charges.
Scores of women have come to fore and accused the 66-year-old of a wide array of misconduct, which ranges from harassment to rape, over decades.
However, maintaining his innocence, Weinstein, whose career has been left in tatters, has always denied non-consensual sex. (ANI)
