Trump touts positive relations with UK

Davos [Switzerland], Jan 25 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump on Thursday underscored a "really great relationship" with British Prime Minister Theresa May, putting a full stop to the reports of the strained relationship between the two leaders.

"The feeling is mutual in liking each other a lot. We are on the same wavelength in every respect," CNN quoted Trump as saying at the meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Trump kicked off his first official day here by holding a bilateral meeting with one of the closest allies to the United States--the United Kingdom's May.

In a series of warm exchanges in Davos, Trump also told the UK PM, "We love your country. We think it's truly great".

Furthermore, the US President highlighted that the two countries are "tied at the hip" militarily and share the "same ideas and same ideals".

Echoing similar sentiments, May stressed that the U.S. and the U.K. "continue to have that really special relationship" as they work together to address issues of trade and the global economy.

Earlier, in the month, Trump cancelled his visit to London to officially open the new U.S. embassy, blaming his predecessor Barack Obama for crafting a "bad deal".

Theresa May had invited Trump for a state visit when she became the first world leader to visit the president in the White House a year ago.

Trump and May clashed in November when the latter condemned his decision to re-tweet anti-Muslim propaganda from a far-right group, Britain First.

She said, in a rare public rebuke, "I am very clear that re-tweeting from Britain First was the wrong thing to do". (ANI)
