Suicide bombing claims five lives in Somalia

UNAMA and Amnesty report civilian casualties following Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan's Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. While Islamabad claims the "precise" strikes "neutralised" 70 militants linked to TTP and Daesh, the UN mission confirms 13 civilians killed and calls for an immediate end to hostilities to protect lives.

More than 80 people were killed in Pakistan's airstrikes at the seven locations in Afghanistan's Nangarhar, Paktika and Khost provinces.

"Royal Air Force aircraft have continued to conduct patrols over Syria to help prevent any attempted resurgence of the Daesh terrorist movement following its military defeat at Baghuz Fawqani in March 2019. Careful intelligence analysis identified an underground facility in the mountains some miles north of the ancient site of Palmyra. This facility had been occupied by Daesh, most likely to store weapons and explosives. The area around the facility is devoid of any civilian habitation," the government said in a press statement.

India's MEA Factcheck unit debunked viral social media posts claiming talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Somaliland's president and any move to recognise Somaliland, calling the claims fake and urging reliance on official sources.

Turkish President Erdogan condemned Israel's recognition of Somaliland as "illegitimate and unacceptable", warning it could destabilise the Horn of Africa. Somalia also criticised the move as illegal, while analysts said it threatens regional stability and could spread Middle East tensions into Africa.

After hearing a briefing by Ambassador Ali Abdi Awrai, Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Arab League, the Council strongly condemned Israel's recognition, on 26th December 2025, of the Somaliland region, affirming its complete rejection of this invalid measure and its resulting political and security repercussions. It stressed that the region is an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in accordance with the Charter of the League of Arab States and the Charter of the United Nations.
