Brazil being governed by 'bunch of lunatics', says former President

Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], Apr 27 (ANI): Criticising the current leadership in Brazil, the country's former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Friday said that the South American nation is being governed by a "bunch of lunatics" or "crazy people".
The 73-year-old political leader was barred from giving face-to-face interviews until Friday, after which two Brazilian journalists were given permission to visit Lula in prison to conduct his first interview in a while, according to Brazilian news publication The Rio Times.
"I don’t fear spending the rest of my life in prison because at least I go to sleep every night with a clear conscience as opposed to those who prosecuted me, who don’t sleep,” he said while speaking to Brazilian daily Folha and Spain’s El Pais newspaper. Lula is a known critic of Brazil's incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro.
"It is not possible that Brazil can be ruled by a bunch of lunatics governing the nation. Brazil does not deserve this, and moreover its people do not deserve this,” the leftist leader said.
He further criticised Brazil's new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araujo, and said that Brazil is currently going through "the lowest level of foreign relations" he has seen.
The former President has been imprisoned since April 2018. The around 12-year sentence handed him was reduced by a Brazilian high court on Tuesday to eight years, 10 months and 20 days. However, he may be released in September and put under house arrest. (ANI)
