Theresa May dismisses claims of police being `underfunded`
London [UK], June 5 (ANI): Dismissing claims that the police are underfunded, British Prime Minister Theresa May on Monday said that overall police budgets have been protected since 2015 and that the number of armed officers in the country is also increasing. She claimed that the Labour Party had opposed extra spending on the police and their party leader Jeremy Corbyn had opposed giving new powers to the police. Speaking about Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick's statement that it would be appropriate to look at police resources, May said Dick has said she has the resources she needs. May added that the police counter-terrorism resources are well-funded. She confirmed that the police have identified all the attackers and 11 persons have been taken into in custody. "The police are working to establish the identity of all of those killed," The Guardian quoted May as saying. However, she said that the threat level remains at severe. Asserting that victims of London attack were from different countries, May said it was an attack not just on London and the UK, but on the free world. She lauded the efforts of the police and the emergency services by calling it as 'extraordinary'. May emphasized that the democratic way of life must go on after the London Bridge terror attacks.
