London [United Kingdom], Oct. 7 (ANI): At least 300 people have been killed by hurricane Matthew in Haiti. Matthew has made the situation worst for Haiti, which is one of the poorest countries in the world, as it is still dealing with the effects of an earthquake last year and a cholera outbreak, reports the Independent. According to the United Nations, thousands of people have been displaced. The United States has sent around $400,000 aid to Haiti and Jamaica. The death toll is expected to rise as emergency workers have struggled to reach the hardest-hit areas of the country. The hurricane moved to the Bahamas on Thursday, mauling the capital of Nassau, and is now very close to the coast of Florida. Mathew is expected to be upgraded to a category five storm and winds of around 140 miles per hour and 11 foot waves will hammer the US coastline. A state of emergency has been declared in Florida and South Carolina by President Barack Obama. Before changing its direction into the Atlantic Ocean by Sunday night, the storm is expected to travel through Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina. Emergency has been declared by the Governors of all the above mentioned states. (ANI)
