Shafdan [Israel], June 29 (ANI): A delegation led by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani recently visited the DAN Region Waste Water Treatment Plant at Shafdan in Israel.
Officials and experts from Israel made a presentation on 'waste water treatment' before the delegation.
This waste water treatment plant is the biggest in Israel established by Mekorot Company since 1977. The capacity to treat the water is 3.70 MLD.
During the visit of this site, Rupani said that Gujarat is blessed with a very long coastal line of 1600 km, has a network of sewage treatment plant in various cities and also a good source of natural water.
Now the need is to manage the resources in such a manner that Gujarat is water-sufficient for years to come, say 2050.
Gujarat has launched waste water treatment policy. A 100 MLD desalination plant will be in operation near Jodia of Jamnagar district. In addition, 10 desalination plants near the coastal line are in the pipeline, in which Gujarat will seek the technical assistance from Israel.
One of the objectives of the visit of the senior delegation from Gujarat is to learn and find out opportunities of collaboration between Israel and Gujarat in these sectors.
Rupani apprised the Israeli officials that Gujarat has covered almost all the municipal towns and cities with the underground sewerage water system. Gujarat is probably the only state in the country for implementation of underground water system, STP and its policy together, he added.
J. P. Gupta, Principal Secretary, Water Supply explained the details of the water management being implemented in the state during the discussion with Israeli officials. (ANI)
