Baghdad [Iraq], Sep 7 (ANI): Three mortar shells fell in the heavily fortified Green Zone of Baghdad on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, the Iraqi military said in a statement.
The explosive shells fell on an "abandoned lot," resulting in "no casualties or physical damage," the statement said.
According to Gulf News, the mortar shells were targeted at the Green Zone located near the Egyptian Embassy.
The authorities are yet to identify the group responsible for the attack, which took place just a few days after scores of people residing in Basra launched a protest against the government for not doing enough to improve the infrastructure of the region.
The Green Zone houses many prominent buildings such as the parliament and multiple foreign embassies. (ANI)
