US to end 'war games' on Korean Peninsula: Trump

Singapore City [Singapore], Jun 12 (ANI): President Donald Trump on Tuesday assured that the United States (US) will cease holding "war games" on the Korean Peninsula.
His assurance followed the historic summit that took place with North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un earlier this morning in Singapore.
"Under the circumstances that we're negotiating a very comprehensive complete deal I think it's inappropriate to have war games ... It is something that (North Korea) very much appreciated," CNN quoted Trump, as saying in a news conference in Singapore after the summit.
The US maintains around 30,000 troops in South Korea, as well as a base for Air Force fighter plane squadrons. Exercises, in particular, involve planes and ships coming in from elsewhere, mostly notably from the island of Guam, in the Western Pacific, the report said.
"The war games are very expensive; we paid for a big majority of them, we fly in bombers from Guam," the US president noted.
Both the leaders signed a joint agreement, according to which Kim committed for 'complete denuclearisation of Korean Peninsula', as per media reports.
Prior to the signing of the comprehensive document, both the leaders had a working lunch and walked around Capella, where they held a bilateral meeting in the morning.
The meeting came after months of deliberations between two countries over the time and venue of the summit.
Despite Kim threatening to call off the summit talks following the 'Max military drills' and Trump announcing to call off the event, citing "tremendous anger and open hostility" from North Korea as the reason, the historic summit finally culminated successfully.
Trump will depart for the US at around 7 p.m. from the Paya Lebar Airbase. (ANI)
