Tillerson says reign of Syria's Assad family ending

Geneva [Switzerland], Oct 27 (ANI): U.S. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson has said the reign of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's family is coming to an end.

"The reign of the Assad family is coming to an end, and the only issue is how that should be brought about," Tillerson told reporters, after meeting with Syria's Ambassador to United Nations, Staffan de Mistura in Geneva, Switzerland, according to Anadolu Agency.

"The United States wants a whole and unified Syria with no role for Bashar al-Assad in the government," Tillerson added.

In March, Tillerson and UN Ambassador of U.S. Nikki Haley said the removal of the Syrian president was not a priority of U.S.

In a videoconference from Geneva, de Mistura told the UN Security Council that the new round of peace talks between the conflicting parties - Syria's government and the opposition would start on November 28. (ANI)
