Molde [Norway], Mar 25 (ANI): The Viking Sky cruise ship, which was adrift in rough seas in the Hustadvika area off Norway, finally docked in Molde Harbour on Sunday (local time).
479 people amongst the 1,300 passengers on board had already been airlifted by emergency services before the docking. That left around 436 guests and 458 crew members on board when the ship docked.
"We made it!" CNN quoted the remaining passengers as exclaiming while recounting tales of terrifying conditions.
The cruise ship had regained engine power on Sunday morning (local time) after which it sailed to the harbour here, accompanied by two supply ships along with one tug assist vessel.
"Throughout all of this, our first priority was for the safety and well-being of our passengers and our crew," Viking Ocean Cruises said in a statement.
Erna Solberg, the Norwegian Prime Minister thanked the rescue workers and volunteers for their response to the incident.
"Furniture would slide across the room, slide back and with it came people and glass. It was a very dangerous situation frankly," one of the passengers told CNN.
The cruise ship had reported mayday on Saturday, after facing issues in bad weather. Only one engine was running in the massive cruise ship, as emergency workers toiled to get more in working condition to escort the ship to safety.
The ship was on its way to Stavanger from Tromso when the incident occurred. The vessel was built in 2017 and had the capacity to hold 930 people. (ANI)
