London [UK], Feb 4 (ANI): Investigators have found a body amidst the wreckage of the missing plane carrying Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala, which dropped off the radar over the English Channel on January 21.
The body can be seen in the video footage shot by a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), which has been deployed by UK's Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), during a search mission carried out on February 3.
"Based on analysis of ROV video footage, the AAIB investigators on board the vessel concluded that the object is wreckage from the missing Piper Malibu aircraft, registration N264DB," a statement issued by AAIB noted while referring to the objects found underwater.
"Tragically, in video footage from the ROV, one occupant is visible amidst the wreckage. The AAIB is now considering the next steps, in consultation with the families of the pilot and passenger, and the police," the investigators announced on Monday.
Following Monday's statement, an interim report will be published before February 23 by the investigators. The identity of the body is yet to be ascertained while it is still not known if the body has been recovered yet.
After authorities called off search and rescue efforts for Sala and the pilot, Sala's family, fans and former club FC Nantes appealed for investigations to continue. Prominent footballers like Adrien Rabiot, Dmitiri Payet and French World Cup star Kylian Mbappe donated sizeable amounts to a crowdfunding campaign aimed at a private search to find Sala.
Sala had just signed a record USD 19 million deal with Cardiff City and was supposed to join the training. He had gone to Nantes, to bid farewell to his former teammates, and was on his way to Cardiff when the incident occurred. (ANI)
