French President Emmanuel Macron slapped by man in crowd

French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday reiterated his commitment to protecting children online and called for the European Union to move quickly towards harmonising a ban on social networks for children under 15.

A 38-year-old Indian-origin woman, Shalini Thakur, was shot dead in Sacramento, California, by 22-year-old Rohit, who had stalked her for months. The gunman, an undocumented immigrant released after a 2023 border crossing, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following the attack.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday revealed that Russia has been hit with over 30,000 sanctions, more than double the total restrictions slapped on all other countries in the world combined, as he condemned global economic coercion and "ugly" competitive tactics.

The US Department of Homeland Security on Thursday (local time) removed an X post featuring a Transformers-themed cartoon confronting an Indian Sikh man with the phrase “Get off our roads, you don’t know how to drive Mr. Singh” following fierce condemnation. 

During the ceremony, President Trump posthumously awarded the nation's highest civilian honour, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to the family of Welles Crowther, the 24-year-old equities trader who saved multiple lives in the South Tower before losing his own and is now remembered as the “Man in the Red Bandana”.
