Won't mediate in Kashmir issue, clarifies China
Beijing (China), May 4 ANI : China has clarified its stand after state media Global Times published a column highlighting Beijing's "vested interest" in resolving the Kashmir issue, terming it as a bilateral dispute between India and Pakistan. The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying, "China's position on the issue of Kashmir is clear and consistent. It is an issue left over from the history between India and Pakistan and shall be properly addressed by them through consultation and negotiation." The column in the state-run Global Times on Tuesday highlighted China's willingness to resolve the Kashmir dispute due to its massive investments in CPEC that passes through the PoK. "Due to massive investments undertaken in the 'One Belt, One Road' initiative in the region, China has a vested interest in helping resolve regional conflicts, including the dispute over Kashmir between India and Pakistan," The Global Times reported. India has always opposed third-party intervention in India-Pakistan bilateral issues, while Pakistan has always sought mediation from other countries to resolve the Kashmir issue. The ministry's statement added that the building of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has no bearing on China's stance on the matter and urged both the countries to "properly handle difference" by increasing communication and dialogue and jointly uphold regional peace and stability." China's clarification comes as Beijing is in talks with India for the latter to be part of a two-day high-profile mega Silk Road summit to be held from May 14 to May 15. (ANI)
