South China Sea: China urges U.S. to be 'prudent with words and actions'
Beijing [China], Jan. 25 (ANI): Responding to latest remarks by Washington over the South China Sea, China urged the United States to be prudent in words and actions to avoid causing disruptions to the peace and stability of the region. Recently, White House spokesperson Sean Spicer said that if the South China Sea islands are in international waters, the U.S. will defend international interests from being taken over by one country. When asked about China's concern over the comment, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Tuesday, "The United States is not a party to the South China Sea disputes. We urge the U.S. side to respect the facts and be prudent in words and actions to avoid causing disruptions to peace and stability of the South China Sea." She added that China's position on the South China Sea issue is clear, consistent and remains unchanged reiterating that Beijing has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and the adjacent waters. "China upholds the freedom of navigation enjoyed by all countries under the international law, and peace and stability of the South China Sea," said Chunying. (ANI)
