Quetta carnage report: PPP to file contempt petition against Chaudhry Nisar

Islamabad [Pakistan], Dec. 19 (ANI): The Pakistan Peoples Party will file a contempt petition against Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for his unwarranted remark against the judicial commission's report on the August 8 Quetta carnage which highlighted the government's inaction against militant groups. "Our legal team will file a contempt petition against Chaudhry Nisar for speaking ill of the judicial commission's report on the carnage since the comment is in fact a contempt of the Supreme Court," the Dawn quoted PPP general secretary Sardar Lateef Khosa, as saying. Dubbing the remarks made by Chaudhry Nisar in his Saturday's press conference as baseless, Khosa said the Interior Minister called the report of the commission, which was formed by the apex court, to be one-sided. He said that his party would counter all such elements, who speak ill of the Supreme Court. Khosa said that it would be interpreted as if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was behind the 'assault' on the apex court if he did not remove the Interior Minister. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has demanded that the Interior Minister be removed from his post over the inquiry commission's report. PTI vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that his party also demands the resignation of Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Sanaullah Khan Zehri and Home Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti. He rebuked the remarks by Chaudhry Nisar on Quetta inquiry commission report as a direct attack on the Supreme Court. Based on investigations into the Quetta incident, the report of the commission headed by Justice Qazi Faez Isa said Nisar 'displayed little sense of ministerial responsibility' and that there was a continued delay on part of his ministry to take steps against militant groups and proscribed organisations. Qureshi said the party believes that the Interior Minister has committed a contempt of court as Justice Isa is a serving Supreme Court judge. He said that the top court should itself take notice of his remarks. (ANI)
