Pakistan briefs P5 envoys about Kashmir situation
Islamabad, July 12 (ANI): Pakistan Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry has briefed ambassadors of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council that include China, France, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and the US over the tense situation on the Indian side Jammu and Kashmir. The press release issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the subject alleged that Chaudhry "expressed serious concern over the brutal killings of civilians and violation of human rights by the Indian security forces". Chaudhry informed the ambassadors that due to the excessive use of force against civilians protesting the killing of Burhan Wani, the 22-year-old Kashmir leader, more than 30 innocent people have lost their lives and more than 350 have been injured so far. During the briefing he emphasized that India should conduct a fair and transparent inquiry against the individuals responsible for these killings. The release stated that he urged the international community and the Security Council in particular to take notice of the gravity of the situation in and call on India to respect the human rights of the people of Kashmir and implement UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. The Foreign Secretary also rejected Indian claims that Kashmir is an internal affair of India and emphasized the disputed nature of the territory. He said that deaths of 'innocent Kashmiri people could not be condoned under the pretext of terrorism' and added that the just struggle for their right to self-determination cannot be equated with terrorism.
