Obama calls Dallas incident 'tremendous tragedy', says access to assault weapons makes such incidents deadly

Washington, July 8 (ANI): Reacting to the Dallas shooting that killed five policeman, U.S. President Barack Obama has extended support and condolences to Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and described the incident as a 'tremendous tragedy'. "I spoke this morning with Mayor Rawlings of Dallas to convey the deepest condolences of the American people. I told him that the federal government will provide whatever assistance Dallas may need as it deals with this tremendous tragedy," said President Obama while speaking at the NATO Warsaw summit in Poland today. President Obama termed it as a 'vicious' attack on the U.S. law enforcement and added that all the facts are yet to be cleared and confirmed. "We still don't know all the facts. What we do know is there has been a vicious, calculated and despicable attack on law enforcement. Police in Dallas were on duty doing their jobs, keeping people safe, during peaceful protests. These law enforcement officers were targeted and nearly a dozen officers were shot. Five were killed. We are praying for their recovery," he said. Obama added such and act cannot be justified saying, "We will learn more about their twisted motivations, but let's be clear there is no possible justification for these kinds of attacks or any violence against law enforcement. Anyone involved in these senseless murders will be held fully accountable. Justice will be done." He said the police have an extraordinarily difficult job and the vast majority of them do their job in outstanding fashion and as a nation let's remember to express our profound gratitude to our men and women in blue, not just today, but everyday. Obama ponited out that it is because of the access to assault weapons that such incidents turn in deadly blood baths, implying the pending gun control act that still hangs with uncertain future in the Congress. "We also know that when people are armed with powerful weapons unfortunately it makes attacks like these more deadly and more tragic. And in the days ahead we are going to have to consider those realities as well." The shooting erupted while protestors were carrying out a peaceful vigil in Dallas to protest the killing of black men by the cops in the past two days. Suspected snipers opened fire on police officers at an anti-violence protest in Dallas, leaving five dead and several wounded.(ANI)
