MQM chief Altaf Hussain hands over complete power to Rabita Committee
Islamabad, Aug. 24 (ANI): The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has officially handed over complete power to the Rabita Committee, hours after the party cut off all ties with him. "I am handing over complete power related to policy making, decision making as well as organisational authority to the Rabita Committee," the Express Tribune quoted Hussain as saying, while praying to God to grant Rabita Committee the ability to serve the country and its people, as best as possible. "I urge MQM's party members, respective leaders, workers and supporters to support the Rabita Committee by making it stronger. Meanwhile, following the committee's advice, I will focus on improving my health," Hussain's said. The statement was posted by MQM convenor Nadeem Nusrat on Twitter. "Leader Altaf Hussain endorses Rabita Committee's presser; tasks RC to deal with organisational/political issues," Nusrat said. Hussain's anti-Pakistan speech triggered countrywide uproar and widespread condemnation. Even his senior aides 'completely disowned' his remarks. "What was said against the state, the slogans raised (against Pakistan) were never a part of MQM's policy from day one," said Farooq Sattar. Sattar accused Hussain of repeatedly embarrassing the party saying, "We have decided to address his mental tension, illness or whatever condition he is suffering from." He was flanked by other senior party colleagues including Nasreen Jalil, Khawaja Izharul Hassan and Amir Liaquat Hussain. Hussain reiterating his apology for the uproar said, "Pakistan was, is and will always remain my country." On Monday, after Hussain's provocative address, MQM activists ransacked the office of ARY News before clashing with police, leaving at least one person dead and over half a dozen injured. (ANI)
