New Delhi [India], May 19 (ANI): The family of the deceased 58-year-old Indian national, who was detained by the U.S. Immigation Department and later, died at an Atlanta hospital earlier this week, has allowed the Indian authorities in the city to cremate his body. According to sources, the Consulate General India (CGI) in Atlanta has been authorised by Atul Kumar Babubhai Patel's family to cremate the body there. Patel's last rites will be performed once the body is handed over to the Consulate after the post mortem. The CGI has been in regular touch with the family of the deceased as well as the local Gujarati Samaj over the incident. Patel reportedly died of high blood pressure and diabetes earlier on Tuesday. He was allegedly detained for not possessing necessary immigration documents while entering the country on May 10 on a flight from Ecuador. He was placed in the Atlanta City Detention Center for two days. The officials said the preliminary cause of his death is congestive heart failure. (ANI)
