India, Uganda have agreed to enhance, exploit potential of ties: Ansari

Kampala [Uganda], Feb.24 (ANI): Vice President M. Hamid Ansari on Friday said both India and Uganda have agreed that there is a great potential for enhancement and expansion of mutual bilateral trade relations between the two nations.

Kampala [Uganda], Feb.24 (ANI): Vice President M. Hamid Ansari on Friday said both India and Uganda have agreed that there is a great potential for enhancement and expansion of mutual bilateral trade relations between the two nations. Concluding his visit to Uganda, both nations have re-affirmed their mutual desire to strengthen economic, diplomatic, military, technical, educational, scientific and cultural cooperation. The Vice President called on Uganda President Yoweri Museveni during his visit and both agreed that the historical relations that exist between Uganda and India were excellent and should be further promoted. This is the first bilateral visit to Uganda by an Indian dignitary since 1997. President Museveni invited private sector investments from India, appreciating the progress achieved so far by the Indian community. Both sides noted that the India had made tremendous steps in the development of its renewable energy capacity, and therefore, would be in position to enhance mutual cooperation in the energy sector. Both nations also agreed to work together towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the area of cooperation in renewable energy. Both India and Uganda agreed to encourage collaboration in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development. Uganda also expressed its desire to replicate some of India's schemes for Digital Inclusion while implementing its Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) project and thanked India for deputing an ICT expert in the office of the Minister of ICT, to which India agreed to share its experience and expertise. Vice President Ansari also announced a gift from India gift from India to Uganda of medicines worth US$ two million and medical equipment worth US$ one million. (ANI)
