India, SA call for concerted action by global community against terrorism
Pretoria (South Africa), July 8 (ANI): During the bilateral discussions held on a range of issues between India and South Africa here on Friday, both sides agreed that terrorism constitutes a serious threat to international peace and stability. The joint statement issued after the meeting and signing of agreements said that no country is immune to the threat that terrorism represents. It was noted that more should be done to address the issue of terrorism and that counter-terrorism efforts should support a comprehensive, multifaceted and integrated approach. "In this regard both leaders noted the need for concerted action by the global community against terrorism through early agreement and adoption of the UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism, as well as the implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in a balanced and integrated manner," the statement said. Prime Minister Modi, had even earlier in a press statement, came down heavily on the menace of terrorism. He said terrorism is a shared threat that puts at risk the safety and security of people of both the countries, adding, "It attacks the very foundations of our society. The President (Jacob Zuma) and I agreed that our two nations need to stay vigilant and cooperate actively to combat terrorism, both in our region and in the world." (ANI)
