Hafiz Saeed put under house arrest in Lahore: Media reports
Lahore [Pakistan], Jan. 30 (ANI): Jamaat ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed has been put under house arrest on Monday and the group is most likely to be banned tonight, according to media reports. The group's leadership is likely to be arrested, Dunya News quoted Nuqta-e-Nazar host Ajmal Jami as claiming. Saeed has been put under house arrest at the Qadisiyyah Mosque near Chouburji, Lahore. Talking on Dunya News program Nuqta-e-Nazar earlier today, senior analyst Mujib ur-Rehman Shami said that the new United States (US) regime is quite tough on these organisations and the government might ban it too. Ajmal Jami said that the statement by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan's statement earlier today almost confirmed the rumours too. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had stated that the activities of Jamaat-ud-Dawa have been under observation since 2011 and details over possible action against it would be made public tomorrow. Nisar added that Jamaat-ud-Dawa has been declared as banned outfit in resolution of Security Council of the United Nations (UN) and every state is required to take action. He added that Pakistan was going to take an action against the group now which was pending. Saeed is wanted by India and the United States for his alleged role in masterminding the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai that claimed 166 lives. He even carries a bounty of 10 million USD (approx. Rs 66 crore) on his head for his role in the attack. Pakistan claims to have banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), but following the attack on the Indian Parliament in 2002, it re-emerged as Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD). The United States has designated the JuD as a front for the LeT. (ANI)
