FIA official arrested for sexual assault on foreigner at Islamabad Airport
Islamabad [Pakistan], July 7 (ANI): A Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) assistant director has been placed under arrest for allegedly harassing an Afghan national sexually at the Islamabad Airport here. The arrest and suspension of the FIA officer was carried out after the incident came to the notice of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, who ordered a detailed probe, reports the Dawn. In the first information report filed with the police, the complainant said she had arrived in the Pakistan capital with her sister from Afghanistan and both were taken by FIA officials to a secluded room in the airport and made to wait for five hours. Later, the officials removed the victim's sister from the room on the pretext of stamping her visa. Subsequently, the accused assistant director entered the room and attempted a sexual assault on the complainant, who managed to flee from the scene after raising an alarm. Airport officials, she claimed, laughed at her plight instead of coming to her help. The complainant said she and her sister were detained for not having the phone number of the hotel where they were supposed to stay. Police said they arrested the accused after examining CCTV footage of the airport and confirming the victim's account. The arrested official will be produced before a magistrate today. (ANI)
