CPN (UML) to 'follow constitutional provisions' after Maoist Centre's support withdrawal

Kathmandu, July 13 (ANI): Terming the withdrawal of support by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) as "unfortunate", the standing committee meeting of the CPN-UML, whose government has been left without a majority now, has decided to "follow the constitutional provisions". The meeting has decided that the party will "stand to uphold the constitution and implement it and follow a forward-looking policy," reports Kathmandu Post. A statement issued by the party said that it would keep a watchful eye to avoid any activities that could harm the national interest. "The urges all the progressive and nationalist forces to remain united for national interest, constitution and national unity. The CPN- UML will strongly move forward as guided by the constitutional process to cope with the emerging political situation," the statement said. On whether the party discussed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's resignation, Chhabilal Bishwokarma, a standing committee member, said, "None of our leaders spoke about the PM's resignation." Meanwhile, Prime Minister Oli's allies rallied with him and asked him not to resign. Reportedly, meeting of the ruling alliance after the Maoist Centre decided to withdraw support for the government urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli not to resign. To this Prime Minister Oli also said that he was ready to face any situation but would not step down. The meeting also decided to seek vote of confidence and concluded that Maoist Centre's decision was an "inappropriate move." After the meeting, PM Oli tweeted, "The ruling alliance has decided to face the new emerging political situation unitedly." (ANI)
