Anguished Madhesi Morcha objects to Big 3 decision of holding polls
By Binod Prasad Adhikari Kathmandu [Nepal], Dec. 29 (ANI): The Madhesi Morcha which supported the new government from outside has stressed on the need for an amendment of Constitution Bill before going to polls. With the three major parties ready to hold local elections, the Morcha has expressed its concerns over the decision. The meeting of the morcha which was held in the Terai- Madhesh Loktantirk Party's office in Bijulibazar, Kathmandu, made an assessment of the present political scenario and agreed to continue the meeting. "The morcha is analysing the present political condition and in serious discussion today we decided to continue the meeting tomorrow also and will make formal announcement tomorrow afternoon at 1," said Brijesh Chandra Lal of the Terai Madhesh Democratic Party. Upendra Yadav, the chairman of Sanghiya Samaj Badi Forum Nepal, walked out of the meeting in the middle because of which no conclusions could be reached. On Wednesday the big three parties Nepali Congress, Maoist Center and opposition CPN-UML had agreed to announce the date for local election within a week. The alliance had also indicated that the country will head towards a civil war if the amendment is not made before the election. The three major political parties has agreed to hold local level elections but are yet to a reach consensus over the structure on which the election will be held. The opposition CPN-UML has been frequently obstructing parliament and force the house to adjourn till Sunday. The next parliamentary meeting will be held on Monday. With the frequent obstruction by the opposition, the government is not able to go ahead with the laws required to hold the elections. (ANI)
