Agitated by low attendance, Pak Senate chairman suspends official duties
Islamabad [Pakistan], Apr 14 (ANI): Pakistan Senate chairman Raza Rabbani today protested by suspending his official duties over the irresponsible behavior and low attendance of members of the Upper House. He had been visibly agitated during Senate proceedings and had commented strongly on the low attendance, reports the Express Tribune. Postponing the session today for an indefinite period, Rabbani said that he was unable to maintain the integrity and constitutional position of the House pointing at the continued absence of federal ministers despite repeated warnings. He also said that if the government would not let him exercise his authority then he had no business holding the Senate chairman's position and should be asked to resign. "There is no use of serving as the chairman of the House without powers," he said, adding that he was postponing his forthcoming visit to Iran in protest. Meanwhile, Senator Rehman Malik said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should tender an apology at the irresponsible, undemocratic and non-parliamentary behavior of his ministers. (ANI)

A country with a well-documented history of clandestine nuclear proliferation can hardly preach the virtues of export controls and proliferation risks. Such ludicrous statements are nothing more than an attempt by Pakistan to distract from its own abysmal record," he said.
