We're nation of laws: Senator Rubio on Trump's 'witch hunt' claim
New York [U.S.], May 19 (ANI): Responding to US President Donald Trump's claim that he is a victim of the "witch hunt," Florida Senator Macro Rubio said that the former is entitled to his opinion, but the United States is a "nation of laws." Referring to the special counsel recently appointed to investigate Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential election, including any ties between Moscow and members of Trump's campaign team, Macro said "We're a nation of laws. That's not a criticism of the president. That is a reality that our institutions work. The acting attorney general has the authority to appoint a special counsel and has done so." Expressing his confidence in Muller, CNN quoted Senator Rubio as saying that he has full confidence that he would conduct an independent, thorough and fair investigation. President Trump has described the appointment of a former FBI director to investigate alleged ties between his campaign team and Russia during the 2016 presidential election as the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history. "This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!" Trump tweeted. President Trump added that there was never a special counsel appointed for illegal acts that took place during Hillary Clinton's campaign or the Obama Administration. "With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special counsel appointed!" Trump said in a tweet. The Justice Department has appointment Robert Mueller, as a special counsel to lead the federal investigation into the Trump campaign links with Moscow to sway the 2016 election. Trump claimed on Wednesday that "no politician in history" has been "treated worse" than him.(ANI)
