UN secretary general to play role of 'honest broker' between India, Pakistan: Maleeha Lodhi
Washington D.C. [United States], Jan. 7 (ANI): Pakistan's permanent representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi has said that the new United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has agreed to play the role of an "honest broker" to de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan. Lodhi, in an interview to Geo News on Saturday after her meeting with the UN secretary general, said that Pakistan welcomed the decision of the UN secretary general. She said the UN secretary general appreciated Islamabad's war against terrorism, adding that Pakistan is one of three biggest countries helping the UN in its peace missions. Pakistan had announced on Friday that it has submitted a dossier to the new United Nations' Secretary General over Indian interference in Islamabad, which was aimed at "destabilising" the nation. Lodhi had delivered the dossier on India's "interference and terrorism" in Pakistan, along with a letter from Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. "The dossier contains additional information and proof of Indian/RAW interference in Pakistan and involvement in terrorism particularly in Balochistan, FATA and Karachi. This is a follow up to the three dossiers, which were shared with the United Nations in October 2015," read a statement on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Government of Pakistan website. (ANI)
