Trump holds 'extremely cordial' phone call with Chinese Prez
New York [USA], Feb. 10 (ANI): U.S. President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping spoke by phone Thursday evening for the first time since the former took office, according to the White House. In the call, the two leaders discussed "numerous topics," and Trump committed to honoring the "One China" policy at Xi's request, reports the CNN. The call was described as "extremely cordial," and the readout released by the White House said "representatives of the United States and China will engage in discussions and negotiations on various issues of mutual interest." The two leaders also extended invitations to meet in their respective countries. Since his election in November, President Trump has challenged Beijing over several issues and, most controversially, upended decades of diplomatic protocol by questioning the longstanding U..S policy towards Taiwan. China views Taiwan as a renegade province and, since 1979, the U.S. has acknowledged Beijing's claim that Taiwan is part of China, with US-China relations governed by the set of protocols known as the "One China" policy. However, prior to taking office, Trump had received a congratulatory phone call from Taiwan's leader Tsai Ing-wen, a move that angered China. (ANI)

"US will never risk sending its navy to open up Strait of Hormuz”

Sibal argued that the US is unlikely to risk a naval operation to forcibly "reopen" the Strait of Hormuz as the deep-water channel necessary for large vessels lies within Iranian territorial waters. Iran does not need sophisticated long-range missiles to defend this corridor; short-range missiles, torpedoes, and mines can easily sink high-value naval assets.
