Trump contradicts WH spokeswoman on effect of Comey's termination
Washington D.C. [U.S.A.], May 12 (ANI): President Donald Trump has said that he feared FBI director James Comey's termination could confuse Americans, but went ahead with the plan anyway. "When I did this now I said, I probably, maybe will confuse people," CNN quoted Trump as saying to NBC News. But he said he did it anyway "to do the right thing for the American people." Trump said he wanted the FBI's investigation into Russia's election meddling to be "absolutely done properly," adding Comey's firing might "lengthen out the investigation." The statement is in clear contrast with White House deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders' who said Comey's firing might fasten up the agency's investigation into Russian meddling. Sanders said, "We want this to come to its conclusion, we want it to come to its conclusion with integrity," while referring to the FBI's probe into Moscow's interference in last year's presidential polls, CNN reported. "And we think that we've actually, by removing Director Comey, taken steps to make that happen." President Donald Trump would "love nothing more for this investigation to continue to its completion," she added. The statement came after other officials insisting that Comey's termination happened because of his handling of an investigation into Hillary Clinton's email server, and was unrelated to his oversight of Russia's election hacking.
