Trans-Pacific Partnership is in the best interest of U.S., other nations: Kirby

Washington D.C. [United States], Nov. 23 (ANI): In the wake of president-elect Donald Trump saying that the U.S. will leave Trans-Pacific Partnership, a spokesperson of the U.S. State Department, John Kirby has said that the Obama administration still believes in the strength of TPP and in the power of trade. He described the TPP as being in the best interest of the United States and other signatory nations. "It's not just the United States. It's not just this Administration that believes in the power of the TPP, but so do many others," Kirby said. Stating that Washington believes in power of TPP, Kirby said, there is need to think more broadly about the power of trade and what trade can bring to not just one, but also many other economies of the world. "We will hear a continued full-throated endorsement of TPP and its importance during the remainder of the time that the Secretary John Kerry is in office," he said. "But look, what the next administration decides to do, that's really for them to speak to and to articulate. What we're going to do is continue to articulate our belief in the strength of theof the TPP," he added. "It's for the incoming administration to determine what they decide to do about TPP. But for the remaining weeks of the Obama Administration, we're going to continue to advance what we believe is the strongest and best alternative for international trade in the Asia Pacific region, which is the TPP," Kirby said.
