South Korean protesters take to streets against President Park again
Washington D.C.[US], Nov. 13 (ANI): Seoul was rocked with massive protests for the second consecutive weekend as scored of livid South Koreans took to the streets calling for President Park Geun-hye's resignation. The march came as opposition to Park mounts following her shocking admission that she shared classified information with someone who lacked the necessary security clearance, reports CNN. The protest was one of the biggest anti-government protests the country has seen in decades. Four officers were injured during the demonstrations, according to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, which cited police. Twenty-six protesters were taken to hospital with injuries and a further 29 were treated at the scene of the protests, Yonhap quoted the Fire Department as saying. The President has already apologized twice, but that has had absolutely no effect on South Koreans who say they feel betrayed. The nation is outraged as Park's confidante, Choi Soon-sil, who does not hold an official government post, allegedly viewed confidential documents and presidential speeches. Media and opposition parties have accused Choi of using her relationship with Park to accumulate millions of dollars in donations to her foundations. Prosecutors arrested Choi on charges of abuse of power and attempted fraud. Park is South Korea's first female president and is also the daughter of Park Chung-hee, the country's president from 1961 to 1979, who was assassinated by his own intelligence chief. (ANI)
