President Trump denies telling Comey to back off Flynn probe
New York [U.S.], May 19 (ANI): U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday denied ever asking former FBI Director James Comey to back off his agency's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign officials and Russia, as well as the role played by former national security adviser, Michael Flynn. According to CNN, President Trump emphatically said "No" when asked during a joint conference with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos in the White House's East Room. President Trump said that he did not asked Comey to back off the investigation of Flynn. "There is no collusion between my campaign and Russians, I think it divides the country, I think we have a very divided country because of that and many other things. So I can tell you that we want to bring this great country of ours together,"President said. Commenting on Comey's memo, Senator Charles Schumer said that if President Trump didn't try to shut down an investigation into a former adviser, he should rather prove it. Schumer said, "Providing the Congress the tapes and the memos may be the only way for this administration to credibly make a case to a justifiably skeptical American public about its version of the story...The President should prove that Comey was wrong." There were reports that President Trump tried to get Comey to end an investigation into former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, who was fired after he misled Vice President Pence and other White House officials over his conversations with Russia's Ambassador to the U.S. President Donald warned that the special counsel investigation into alleged links between his 2016 campaign and Russia's election hacking "hurts our country" after branding the probe the "single greatest witch hunt" in political history. The White House has denied the allegations. Schumer further said that the President could easily prove that the administration is telling the truth.(ANI)
