Pope Francis wishes Trump after being sworn in as 45th U.S. President
Washington D.C. [United States], Jan. 21 (ANI): Pope Francis has sent his greetings to Donald Trump after he was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States on Friday. In a letter to Trump, the Pope said, "Upon your inauguration as the forty-fifth President of the United States of America, I offer you my cordial good wishes and the assurance of my prayers that Almighty God will grant you wisdom and strength in the exercise of your high office." "I pray that your decisions will be guided by the rich spiritual and ethical values that have shaped the history of the American people and your nation's commitment to the advancement of human dignity and freedom worldwide," The Washington Post quoted the letter as saying. The Pope wished Trump that under his leadership America's stature continue to be measured above all by its concern for the poor, the outcast and those in need. Pope Francis asked the Lord to grant Trump and his family, and all the beloved American people, his blessings of peace, concord and every material and spiritual prosperity. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts administered Trump the oath as his wife Melania held the Bible and Trump repeated the words, " I Donald John Trump do solemnly swear, that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States and will to the best of my ability preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Before Trump, Mike Pence was sworn in as the new Vice-President of the United States. Following the swearing-in ceremony, in his first address as President from the Capitol Hill, Trump said, "We the citizens of America are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people. Together we will determine the course of America and all of the world for many many years to come." "Today we are not merely transferring power from one party to another... but we are transferring power from Washington DC and giving it back to you, the people," he added. (ANI)
