Indonesia: Police kill three as suspected bomb found near Jakarta

London [UK], Dec. 21 (ANI): Three suspects were shot down by the Indonesian anti-terrorism police in a gun battle at a house near the capital Jakarta, after they allegedly threw explosives at police and a larger bomb was found at the residence. The Guardian reports that the residential neighborhood of South Tangerang was immediately evacuated after the explosives were found. Jakarta police spokesman Argo Yuwono said the group was a planning an attack on New Year's Eve. National police spokesman Rikwanto said the three men who were killed had tried to resist arrest and threw explosives at police as they raided the house. "During the raid, we tried to be careful but they threw something from inside the house and it was a bomb but it did not explode. Then they fired from inside," said Rikwanto. "Inside the house we found a bigger bomb and now we are investigating it to try to detonate it," Rikwanto said. One person was arrested after the raid. The authorities believe the suspects were linked to several militants arrested on 10th December in another neighborhood on the outskirts of Jakarta who were allegedly planning a suicide bomb attack on a guard-changing ceremony at the presidential palace the next day.
