Comey's firing amounts to violation of Trust: U.S. Attorney Generals

New York [U.S.], May12 (ANI) : Attorney Generals of 20 states have sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice's Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, calling the firing of FBI Director James B. Comey during an active investigation "a violation of the public trust."

New York [U.S.], May12 (ANI) : Attorney Generals of 20 states have sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice's Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, calling the firing of FBI Director James B. Comey during an active investigation "a violation of the public trust." Chief of law enforcement officers of respective states have written a letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein over the President's firing of FBI director in the middle of his investigation of Russian interference in the presidential election, as a violation of the public trust. "As prosecutors committed to the rule of law, we urge you to consider the damage to our democratic system of any attempts by the administration to derail and delegitimize the investigation." "The residents of our states and the American people deserve although investigation that makes clear the extent of Russian meddling, any collision by Trump campaign officials, and any cover-up," the letter added. The letter further stated "Only the appointment of an independent special counsel, pursuant to 28CFR $600. I,with full powers and resources can begin to restore public confidence. " The Attorneys General who also signed the letter are from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont and Washington.(ANI)
