'Let's shatter stereotypes': Hillary Clinton calls on more women to run for office

New York [U.S.], Mar. 8 (ANI): Stressing on the need for more women in politics, former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton credited her family, friends and many of the women she had mentored with for giving her the strength to bounce back after losing to Donald Trump in the elections. Speaking at a women's empowerment event in New York on Tuesday, Clinton even joked about her own resilience after her November election loss to President Trump, reports CNN. "Now, the truth is, life hands all of us setbacks. Now, we know that. And if you have lived long enough, you have experienced them, haven't you? Now, I have had my ups and my downs. In the last months I have done my share of sleeping, a little soul searching and reflecting, long walks in the woods and in those moments I am thankful for my own village, my community and family and friends who have supported and encouraged me. I have also been buoyed by the love and support that I have received by the young women I have mentored over my lifetime. They inspire me every day," she said. Using her appearance to highlight the need of bringing women into the political sphere, Clinton spoke assertively on the need for more women to run for office. "Let us hope there is a wave of young women running for office in America. And let's be sure we support them, in every way we can. Let's help them shatter stereotypes and lift each other up," she said. Following the loss to Trump, Clinton had managed to keep a rather low profile and had hardly made any addresses, including a full-fledged post-election interview. But her schedule shows signs of thawing as Clinton will speak Wednesday at an International Women's Day event in Washington and is also set to deliver a series of speeches in the coming months. Clinton will also publish a new book of personal essays in fall 2017. (ANI)
