Ankara [Turkey], Oct 17 (ANI): United States Secretary of State Michael Pompeo met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to Ankara.
US State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said that the two discussed a range of issues of bilateral importance including Syria.
"The Secretary welcomed the decision to return Pastor Andrew Brunson," stated the readout.
Pompeo also put forth the US' concerns about the disappearance of Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi and reiterated its willingness to assist Turkey in its investigation.
During his visit, Pompeo also met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and discussed a range of issues of bilateral importance including Syria, Iran, and counterterrorism.
"The Secretary also discussed with Foreign Minister Cavusoglu the continued wrongful detention of Dr. Serkan Golge and other U.S. citizens as well as locally employed staff from U.S. Mission Turkey," stated the readout issued by Nauert.
Pompeo visited Turkey on the request of US President Donald Trump. The trip came following his visit to Saudi Arabia to meet King Salman and Foreign Minister al-Jubeir in Riyadh to discuss the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Pompeo, in his meeting with Saudi authorities, had stressed on the need for a thorough, transparent, and timely investigation in the case. (ANI)
