Abu Dhabi [UAE], Nov 30 (ANI): A United Arab Emirates (UAE) company is envisioning laying an underwater rail line between Fujairah and the coastal city of Mumbai in India in the near future.
"This is a concept. We plan to connect Indian city of Mumbai with Fujairah through ultra-speed floating trains. The project aims to boost bilateral trade. There will be an export of oil to India from Fujairah port and import of excess water from Narmada River, north of Mumbai. In addition, other GCC partners can also improve export and import," Abdulla Alshehhi, the founder-owner of the National Advisor Bureau Limited consultancy firm said at the UAE-India Conclave which was recently held in Abu Dhabi.
While the idea is still in its nascent stage, The Khaleej Times quoted Alshehhi as mentioning that the complete railway network would measure less than 2,000 kilometers.
The concept of an underwater rail project connecting the UAE and India comes from the same man who had proposed the UAE Iceberg project, which aims at bringing icebergs from Antarctica to solve the middle-eastern nation's water crisis - A project that is well underway with a pilot phase lined in the third quarter of 2019.
"We will do a feasibility study of the project. This is a concept but a cool project to look at," he lastly said at the conclave. (ANI)
