Karachi [Pakistan], Mar 24 (ANI): Two Hindu girls were abducted on the eve of Holi and "forcibly converted to Islam", the brother of the victims has alleged.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said in a tweet on Sunday that she has asked Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria to send a report on the issue.
Replying to Swaraj's tweet, Pakistan's Information and Broadcast Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered an "immediate investigation" into the incident.
According to The Express Tribune, Hindu community leaders from Daharki taluka of Ghotki district in Sindh claimed that the two underage girls, belonging to the scheduled caste community, were kidnapped by people from the Kohbar and Malik tribes on March 21.
They also staged a sit-in to protest the incident.
The brother of the victims was quoted as saying, "The two had been abducted and forcibly converted to Islam."
According to the newspaper, Hindu community leader Mukhi Shiv Menghwar said,"It was not free will and the girls were in fact kidnapped and forcibly converted."
In a video that went viral on social media, the two girls claimed, "No one has forced us, we have embraced Islam at will."
Chaudhry also said that the white strip in Pakistan’s flag belongs to minorities and it is "our duty to protect them".
Replying to Swaraj's tweet, Chaudhry said, "Mam its Pakistan internal issue and rest assure its not Modi’s India where minorities are subjugated its Imran Khan’s Naya Pak where the white colour of our flag is equally dearer to us. I hope you ll act with the same diligence when it comes to the rights of Indian Minorities." (ANI)
