Trump's Middle East advisor set to depart White House

Washington DC [USA], Dec 10 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump's deputy national security advisor Dina Powell, a driving force behind the Trump administration's Middle East policy, will become the latest senior figure to leave the White House.

The White House has confirmed that Powell would quit the administration early next year, reported the Independent.

Powell is exiting on good terms with the president, unlike some top White House officials who resigned or were fired amid controversy this year and the former Goldman Sachs executive would continue to offer advice from outside the government.

National security advisor HR McMaster called Powell "one of the most talented and effective leaders with whom I have ever served."

"Dina has been an invaluable member of President Trump's team. She organised and drove an effort to restore our nation's strategic competence," McMaster said.

Powell had reportedly clashed with key figures in the administration, such as secretary of state Rex Tillerson and former chief strategist Steve Bannon, over the direction of Trump's foreign policy.

The announcement came just a few days after Trump's controversial move to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital. (ANI)
